Make An Easy Blog Button

“A blog is merely a tool that lets you do anything from change the world to share  your shopping list.”

You can Make An Easy Blog Button!

I’m not kidding, stop the head shaking and eye rolling.

I have teens- I sense these things. 😉

I’ve had a few conversations with my sweet blogging buddy, Irish of Dedicated 2 Life, about the need to have a button on our blogs that allows others to take that code snip it and display it on their website.

It’s excellent Advertising!

I looked into it and read some incredible tutorials BUT the fact still remained that this whole blog button making business seemed WAY over my slightly greying noggin.

That’s right, I said it!

I was intimidated, confused and tossed my hands up after a couple hours that produced nothing but failure on my part.

It wasn’t the tutorial, it was me.

I needed the idiots guide to Make An Easy Blog Button!

I missed many opportunities to have my button featured on others sites.

I was asked to guest host a couple of times and could not because they required my blog button.

I was REALLY getting in my way, cramping my style and tossing a wrench in my own plans!

My toes were cold in the very early hours of a sleepy Saturday around here.

I turned on a movie, flipped on my laptop, determined to tackle this button business.

Who knew it could take me less than 10 minutes to Make An Easy Blog Button!?!?

I was so thrilled to find a much needed shortcut!

My super talented girlfriend, Lynden of An Elegant Touch, wanted to know how to make an easy blog button too so I thought I’d share it with all of you!

First, find a picture that you would like to use.

(You will have the opportunity to edit it later.)

Open up an Internet tab and go to

PicMonkey is a FREE online photo editing site!

There is 2 buttons to choose from, Edit or Make A Collage.

Since we’re trying to Make An Easy Blog Button, we’re going to choose to tap on the

EDIT Button.

When you tap on the EDIT button it will pull up the box that will allow you to choose your picture.

Choose the picture that you desire to represent your blog.

When you choose the picture, you it will open the editor screen.

I had to play around for a few minutes to figure out how it all works.

It was fun!

It has neat options of other photo editing purposes, like weight loss, teeth whitening, add vampire fangs and so much more.

It’s free!! I’ve been having SO MUCH fun tweaking photos at PicMonkey.

I found that it was easier to RESIZE my picture using the button to make it a little larger.

It helped to do the following steps to Make An Easy Blog Button, even though I needed to RESIZE it again to 150×150 when everything was all done and I was happy with the results.

I took this opportunity to use the sharpen tool as well.

When I was happy with my picture, I took my mouse over to the bar on the right to where the P is.

Tap that button to add text to the picture.

There are MANY fonts to choose from.

Pick the font of your choice.

Go back to the picture and tap on it to open the text box.

When the text box is open, you will have MANY more choices.

BEFORE you start to type, make sure to set the COLOR and what SIZE you would like the words to be.

Go back to the picture and type the name of the blog.

Don’t worry if it isn’t just right, you can adjust it by using the text box to manipulate the wording.

If you would like to resize it to make it smaller. This is the time to go back and set it to the size you desire.

Above the picture there is a SAVE button.

Tap SAVE and name this for your files.

Now go to your blog and add this picture somewhere in a blog post as that it has a URL address for the next step.

This represents that awesome site you’ve worked so hard on so it won’t be hard to find a easy spot to drop this new button picture as filler between text. No one will notice what you just did but now it has a URL.

Open up another tab and go to,

This site is called Grab My Button- Code Generator.

This site does one thing… Make you a button that others can grab to place on your website.

You need to :

A. Know the name of your blog.

That should be an easy one. 😉

B. Know the URL of your blog.

C. Know the Image URL for the button you created on PicMonkey & popped into your blog.

AHHHH! How do I know what the Image URL is again Meg????

No Problem!!

Open up the post that you put that cute button we created from PicMonkey.

Tap on the picture and it will open up a screen with only that picture.

The URL above that picture is the IMAGE URL.

I suggest that you go right on up there, highlight and copy.

Go back to Grab My Button and pop the IMAGE URL in it’s place.

You have some choices as to the colors you would like implemented.

Tap the box where it says to and poof, you have color.

Go down and TAP the PREVIEW button and it will generate a preview of how the button will look.

If you are happy with what you see…

Tap on the Green Bubble that says GET CODE.

Almost as easy as if I got to wave a magic wand… POOF!

Highlight and Copy that piece of beautiful code that will now allow people to grab the button from your blog and proudly display on their website!

How you add that code to your site varies depending upon what company you use.

I happen to be with WordPress.

To add my button to my blog, I would go to the dashboard of my site.

Scroll down to Appearance, which opens another larger list.

I choose where I would like my button to appear on my side bar.

Tap EDIT on the text line desired.

Paste the Code the you made at GRAB MY BUTTON into the box and click SAVE.

You can go on up and see where I placed my new button.

I’d be honored if you would grab it and place it on your site. 🙂

You’ll never know how simple it is to Make An Easy Blog Button until you try it and find that even playing around with the photo editor, it won’t take more than 20 minutes before the code is on your site.

I know, I know having the code generated for you is cheating.

I’m not above a little taking the easy road.

I am no super computer savvy super blogger.

I’m little ol’ me.

Scared of coding and missed out.

After several trys, I think I finally got it. I have tried before but I’m not too literate on the mumbo jumbo of figuring out what they were trying to tell me. I won’t know if it works until someone places it on their blog. We’ll see. Anyway, you were a great help of information.
    Thank you.

  1. Thanks! I’m totally trying this!

    New follower from Sunday Sync.

  2. I tried this before. Even with help from a very knowledgeable friend, I got it to work but it would show TWO buttons, one on top of the other on my blog. Hee hee. I’d like to try again. Perhaps if my children would stop trying to hurt each other for a few minutes I can try try again! I’m technologically impaired AND I’m on WordPress-a double whammy!

Aww, your working on .com and I have .org wordpress. I’d be happy to help any way I can. I was coding you into my blogroll… button or no button. 🙂 It took me over 6 months before I even tried to make a button because I felt like it was too hard. I bet you know more than you give yourself credit for. Sometimes ya just need to walk away for a bit to come back and have it totally make sense. 🙂

I think I love you! I would never even attempted this, because I am totally not up to speed on running a website or with computer language in general. Your instructions and your positive push were great and I did it! 🙂 (I may have made mine too large, but good for now 🙂 Your website is full of such great stuff and I think I’m going to avoid all housework and spend the day here.

Ps- I’m going to try and create a “blogs i love” section and put you there as soon as I figure out how to do that. Thanks again!! Good luck with your book!!
